Just like how squirrels are just rats in a skirt, foxes are basically just dogs living on the street that wear a different colored jacket. While they're notorious in a lot of regions, like in the UK, where foxes are considered street vermin, over here in North America, the fox is a fabled, wonderous creature. Incapable of ever eating trash or biting pedestrians in the street, foxes are revered as woodland spirits of yore, happily scritching and dancing in the woods to their flute-heavy tunes.
So when a fox chose a woman's house to make shelter, how could she refuse?
This fox chose her, and every time the weather was afoul—either freezing or far too hot—the fox came to her home for shelter. Unafraid of her humanness or her dog's inquisitive snoot, the fox learned to use the doggy door, coming and going as he pleased. So while many of us ask ourselves what the fox might say, this fox-lover knows exactly what hers would say: Welcome home.
